The paintings and animations of artist Tala Madani often feature naked people. Some are bald middle-aged men, caught in perverse or bizarre acts. Some are toddlers peeing on walls or playing with poop. Born in Tehran and now based in Los Angeles, the artist has said she’s “mostly interested in art that excavates from the psyche—not the frontal lobe, not the intellectual, not the speakable, but the unspeakable.” The first North American survey of Madani’s work is set to open at MOCA. —Jensen Davis
