At first glance, the 10 artists featured in “Stop Motion” seem quite different. Oliva Chigas, for instance, paints modern women as symbols of loneliness, while ceramist Josie Cross focuses on botanical shapes and textures. The paintings of Amari Mitnaul explore Black femininity, while Field Kallop’s canvases join mysticism to mathematics in color fields of curves and angles. Whichever way they move, all 10 women work outside the norms of male artists. —Clara Molot
