Travis Alabanza’s Sound of the Underground brings eight legendary drag queens from London’s club scene to the Royal Court Theatre. The queens jokingly threaten to kill RuPaul for sanitizing drag for a mainstream audience, but the banter quickly turns into a plot. Through dance numbers, songs, many costume changes, and a strip tease, the importance of drag to the queens becomes palpable. Debbie Hannan directs. —Jensen Davis
