Oslo’s Henriette Motzfeldt and Catharina Stoltenberg—who perform together as Smerz—make deconstructed electronic music. It’s late night music you can dance to, full of shuffling drum machines and noir syrupy synthesizer tones. Inspired by the work of the legendary Chicago footwork producer, DJ Rashad, Smerz puts an icy Nordic spin on a popular American dance-music movement. Now on a North American tour to promote its debut album Believer, which came out in 2021 on XL Recordings, Smerz will be playing on March 4 at National Sawdust in Williamsburg. —Sophie Kemp
