A year before her death, in 2020, the artist Etel Adnan published Shifting the Silence, a book about history and existence. At 95, she sat at her window over the ocean in Brittany, and wrote about her own approaching death. Inspired by Adnan, this exhibition pulls together work made in the last 25 years by 32 women artists. All use abstraction to address transience and being. —Elena Clavarino
