These days, if Bobby McFerrin were to walk down Valencia Street singing “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” he’d likely be pelted with Mission burritos. But the transformative power of McFerrin’s music-making is real, and fully justifies his place on the virtual dais with such revered elders as bassist Reggie Workman, multi-instrumentalist Roscoe Mitchell, and jazz apostle Dorthaan Kirk. All but the last named will perform (from sundry locations), as will Terri Lyne Carrington, Ambrose Akinmusire, and others. —E.E.
