Before it was “the show that made country music famous,” the Grand Ole Opry was brought to listeners live from station WSM, airing out of a one-window room in downtown Nashville. The hour brought several artists together to perform short sets from inside the small space, their tunes broadcast across the South. Soon, crowds were filling the hallways to hear the show in person. Hence the move to the Grand Ole Opry House, a nearly 4,500 seat concert hall where the Opry continues in its original format each Saturday night. During the pandemic, the show goes on via streaming platforms, with stellar lineups in the weeks ahead. —C.J.F.
