When Catherine the Great bought The Lamentation, a monumental work by a Baroque painter of the Flemish school, Jacob Jordaens, a wave of Russian aristocrats followed suit. This rush for Flemish golden-age masters brought a considerable number of works to Russia. For the first time, all the Jordaens paintings and drawings in Russian museums—nearly 50 works total, including The Lamentation (never before shown in Moscow)—are now on view at the Pushkin State Museum of the Arts. —J.V.
