Rooster, Tiger, Sheep. Does this grouping sound familiar? If it does, it’s because these animals are part of the Chinese zodiac, a 12-year cycle known around the world. In this exhibition, Wen You Cai’s lighthearted lens plays with the attributes of the cycle’s 12 different animals. A “snake” by birth, Wen comments humorously and emotionally on members of his own “species,” and his photos bring out themes of tradition and cultural connection between generations. —E.C.
