Thumbs up for a gorgeous poster of deep violet and ruby red that channels James Turrell—if he drew pictures. And three cheers for commissioning a work of local relevance and then, in response to local demand, supporting it with a prompt revival. Riders of the Purple Sage, an opera by composer Craig Bohmler and librettist Steven Mark Kohn, premiered in 2017. It takes its story from a 1912 novel by Zane Grey, a Western with cattle rustlers and horse thieves. There’s also patriarchy, religion, and outsiders. Sounds pretty relevant! —L.J.
