Situated just a few miles outside Aix-en-Provence, there is a hotel and vineyard with an art center at its heart—Château la Coste. The center was designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando, and the property is dotted with his chapels and origami benches. In the gardens, a Louise Bourgeois spider perches at the end of an infinity pool, and works by Per Kirkeby, Calder, and Tracey Emin beguile. In a new temporary exhibition organized in collaboration with Albion, Richard Long has taken over the Château’s gallery with two huge installations, both inspired by tranquil walks around Provence’s lulling hills. Meanwhile, a new outdoor work by Long, A Line in Provence, sees the placement of white stones in a straight line through an expanse of shallow water—a sort of fairy tale path. —E.C.
