Performance artist Richard Jackson trained as an engineer before falling into the art world. “I am more interested in the process than the finished work,” he has said. Jackson loves experimentation, often using funnels, tubes, and pumps to deploy paint into his signature ‘room installations.’ One could say he is a maximalist: neon colors, comic-like sculptures, and gallons of bright paint are spattered all over thin walls. In a 12-room exhibition, Jackson shows how the artistic process takes on a life of its own. —E.C.
