It’s usually called the New Generation Festival, but this year, in a symbolic nod to the pandemic, the word is “ReGeneration.” The festival’s co-founder and artistic director, Maximillian Fane, says, “The New Generation Festival focuses on two key aspects. One is promoting world-class opportunities for the best young artists, and creating a healthy and sustainable way to support these artists at the start of their careers. The other is about opening up classical music, opera, and all great music to new and younger audiences.” This August, Rossini’s La Cenerentola is programmed along with music by Mozart, Beethoven, and Haydn, and a jazz night featuring Anush Hovhannisyan, Shenel Johns, and Veronica Swift. For this four-day event, NGF is creating an outdoor theater for social distancing, and has fun up its sleeve. —L.J.
The concerts will be streamed live online at newgenerationfestival.org and from the Uffizi’s YouTube channel.
