During the troubled days of May 2020, protesters hit the streets. In New York City’s five boroughs, some marched peacefully, while others bashed in store windows and looted. When plywood sheets were used to board up the smashed storefronts, street artists painted messages of hope and equality on them. This exhibition presents photographs of these boards. In addition, instead of sending the plywood to landfills, BVN converted the wood into sleek stools, chairs, and awnings for outdoor dining, architectural marvels that have been used by city institutions such as Wayan, Scarpetta, Gramercy Tavern, and more. To see the show, visit the 12th floor of NeueHouse Madison Square. The multimedia artist Cavier Coleman will be making street-art works live. —E.C.
