“What I really hoped to do with my work,” Rashid Johnson has said, “was to at least be able to define my relationship to race.” His method? Dissecting cultural notions of Blackness. Influenced by his reading of history and philosophy, Johnson stormed the art scene with startling multimedia pieces. In this exhibition, works such as his monumental installation Home (2023) and his abstract “Bruise” and “God” paintings are paired with relevant pieces from the Moderna Museet’s collection. —Elena Clavarino
