The work of British painter Rachel Jones is visceral. “I want to translate all that lust for self-expression into a language that exists outside of words,” she once explained, “and instead relates to seeing and feeling with our eyes.” Jones looks for themes that convey a certain abstract concept. Here, she chooses the mouth as a cleft or passage into the soul. Jones is rising fast and her first solo exhibition includes works on canvas and paper. —Elena Clavarino
