The third installment of the BBC’s acclaimed Planet Earth series comes at a critical moment, which its creators are all too aware of. Narrated by David Attenborough (who turned 97 in May) and scored by Hans Zimmer, Planet Earth III captures with characteristic majesty the incredible stories of animals surviving their environments—but also the palpable fragility of it all in the face of climate change. At one point in filming, the crew broke the unofficial doctrine of non-intervention to rescue several green sea turtles ensnared in netting. While featuring the dramatic stories of endurance viewers have come to expect, this latest installment of the beloved nature series is far less willing to gloss over the dire circumstances that species face today. A poignant, powerful call to arms. —Paulina Prosnitz
