In Romania, on October 30, 2015, a fire engulfed the club Colectiv, while the metal band Goodbye to Gravity was performing on stage. The death toll that night was 27; four months after the fire that number had risen to 64. And yet many who died had seemingly manageable injuries. What was the true story of the aftermath? Conducting his own private investigation, director Alexander Nanau set out to uncover the truth. Doubling as cameraman and editor, he combed through evidence, traipsed around the country, spoke to victims and experts. Government corruption, political games—what Nanau discovers is shocking. —E.C.
