Pipilotti Rist was born Elisabeth Charlotte Rist, but started going by Pipilotti after combining her childhood nickname “Lotti” with the name of her childhood hero, Pippi Longstocking. She grew up in the Swiss Rhine valley in the 1960s, and took a shine to art after studying theoretical physics in Vienna. Rist’s large-scale, often immersive, feminist installations retain something of the metaphysical. In this installation, thousands of LED lights hang from the ceiling. Worry Will Vanish, a video projection, takes viewers on a journey to somewhere unknown. —Elena Clavarino
