Transformation—one structure turning into another—is the modus operandi of the dance company Pilobolus, the way it moves from A to Z, from here to there. In lieu of a style or syllabus, Pilobolus seems forever focused on the idea of mutability: changing shapes and evolving meanings. Which makes for a very satisfying evening in the theater. Whether the dance at hand tells a story or is abstract, the shapes and images created by these amazing dancers are ingenious and thrilling. The New York season alternates between two programs, and there’s a family matinee on July 22. —Laura Jacobs
