One can scarcely dispute that Auguste Rodin and Pablo Picasso were godlike creators. The former is hailed as the father of modern sculpture, and the latter is credited with the groundbreaking Cubist movement, which led to many offshoot movements, including Futurism, Dada, Constructivism, De Stijl, and Art Deco. The lives of these two artists overlapped by 36 years, from Picasso’s birth in 1881 to Rodin’s death in 1917. This exhibition brings them together, looking at themes they shared (such as sex and death), and the surprising similarities in their creative processes. Organized jointly by the Musée National Picasso and the Musée Rodin, this monumental show fills both institutions. —E.C.
