Philip Treacy: The Maestro

Nov 20, 2020 – Mar 21, 2021
29 Liniya Vasil'yevskogo Ostrova, 2, St Petersburg, Russia, 199106

Philip Treacy, one of the two greatest milliners in the world today (the other is Stephen Jones), has such a light touch that his hats can seem more creatures of the air than of the atalier. He is perhaps the most poetic milliner in history. “I like to challenge people’s perception of what a hat can look like in the 21st century,” Treacy told me in 2018. “And I think a hat can exist anywhere on the head. Part of the architecture of hat design is creating an illusion of balance, proportion and fantasy, potentially worn at a gravity defying angle.” The Erarta Museum celebrates its 10th anniversary with an exhibition of Treacy’s incomparable creations. —L.J.
