Brought up in Bavaria by an artist father, Paloma Varga Weisz was steeped in art at home and classically trained as well. She also studied woodcarving, modeling, and casting. Today her sculptures, executed with those very techniques, are far from classical. Heavily textured and tactile figures are laden with personal motifs. Her small watercolors feature grotesque characters and fantastical creatures. In an exhibition that features the diverse cast of characters she conjures, sculptures and 40 watercolors are on display. —E.C.
