The Turkish artist Özgür Kar called the 2010s his “decade of submission,” a time filled with “hours and hours of scrolling through feeds, or watching YouTube tutorials that have nothing to do with my daily life.” His works reflect on that submission, none more than the massive installation At The End of the Day, now on view at Stedelijk. It consists of a large flat-screen monitor that displays the image of a naked figure who appears to be trapped; a stack of nine speakers ominously tilts toward and towers over the TV. The figure delivers a 15-minute monologue full of self-help and pep-talk phrases like “I’ll come out on top, just be yourself, be real to yourself.” This installation marks Kar’s first major museum presence in the Netherlands. —Jensen Davis
