A new Salvador Dalí museum is opening at 6 Monturiol Street in Figueres, Catalonia. Although a Dalí museum already exists in Figueres, the Monturiol Street establishment, located in the artist’s childhood home, shares his life story in multiple dimensions and gives vivid context to his work. “Everything he painted was an autobiography, the fruit of his personal experience,” says Mariona Seguranyes, the town’s culture counselor and a Dalí specialist. In a guided tour that includes photographs, objects, holograms, and talking windows, Casa Natal Salvador Dalí takes viewers through the artist’s early childhood memories; his mother’s premature death, in 1921; and his eventual departure to Madrid. Many museums have exhibited Dalí’s work, but only this one is in exclusive dialogue with the artist himself. —Jeanne Malle
