Yayoi Kusama once said, “My life is a dot lost among thousands of other dots.” Stepping into her immersive Infinity Rooms, you become a dot—a speck in a sea of possibility. Kusama is encouraging people to abandon their notions of self, to transcend, if only for an hour, the egocentrism of our time. The Hirshhorn exhibition includes Kusama’s first Infinity Mirror Room—Phalli’s Field (1965/2017)—and a more recent room. It also includes an early painting, sculptures, and photographs. —Elena Clavarino
