“Photographers shouldn’t confuse their response to the politics of the country with their role as photographers,” said David Goldblatt in 1998. In this exhibition, which the South African Goldblatt helped to conceive before his death last year, 80 of his images capture life in and around the gold mines that were so economically vital to the country in the 1960s and 70s. Goldblatt documents all aspects of life on the mines, inviting viewers to draw their own conclusions. —J.V.
