New Light: Encounters and Connections

July 3, 2021 – Aug 22, 2022
465 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02115, USA

With museums now reexamining traditional hierarchies and systems of display, we are seeing a number of exhibitions that create dialogues between older works and new acquisitions. In “New Light” at Boston’s MFA, 60 works of art have been divided into 21 “conversations,” with newly acquired contemporary pieces speaking to rarely exhibited older ones from the museum’s holdings. An Egyptian carving of a princess, for instance, is shown with work by an emerging local artist. The roster of contemporary artists includes Dana C. Chandler Jr., Tomashi Jackson, Lavaughan Jenkins, and Alison Croney Moses. —E.C.
