Psychoanalytical logic is no longer reserved for the shrink’s chaise, nor are repressed wishes trapped in the unconscious. The Swiss artists Nathalie Djuerberg and Hans Berg visualize Freudian readings of fairy tales in their narrative work—dreamy mélanges of sculpture, stop-motion film, and sound. Tropes of childhood gloss each story, but latent and forbidden desires erupt to the surface. At the Tonya Bonakdar Gallery, our fears are close cousins of our fantasies. —C.J.F.
