My Best Friend's Wedding: The Musical

Art for My Best Friend’s Wedding.

10 Main St, Ogunquit, ME 03907, United States

With The Devil Wears Prada and Dr. Strangelove in London, and Death Becomes Her in New York, this is a big year for stage adaptations of classic films. Far from Broadway and the West End, there’s My Best Friend’s Wedding, a new musical based on the 1997 Julia Roberts rom-com, written by Ronald Bass. Premiering in the small town of Ogunquit, Maine, the production was written by Bass and Jonathan Harvey, with music sourced from Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The story follows Julianne Potter, a food critic who’s replaced romance with work since breaking up with her longtime boyfriend, Michael. When Michael announces his engagement to another woman, Julianne is determined to win him back—but just how far will she go to do so? Krystal Joy Brown takes on the role of Julianne, under the direction of Kathleen Marshall. Expect the song classics “I Say a Little Prayer” and “Walk on By.” —Jeanne Malle
