Morning Sun, a new play by Simon Stephens, stars three powerhouse women—the Tony-award-winning Blair Brown, Edie Falco of Nurse Jackie and The Sopranos, and Marin Ireland—as a grandmother, mother, and granddaughter sharing a Greenwich Village walk-up. Stephens took his title from Edward Hopper’s lonely, wistful 1952 painting of a woman staring out her window, and as Falco recently told The New York Times, the play looks at three “not terribly remarkable” women who are “just trying to get through stuff.” Subtle and impressionistic, Morning Sun is directed by Lila Neugebauer. —J.D.
