Before artificial intelligence became the topic du jour, playwright Jordan Harrison explored the relationship between people and robots in his play Marjorie Prime, which premiered in 2014. The show is about Marjorie, who is 85 and beginning to develop Alzheimer’s disease. To jog her memory, Marjorie’s concerned children hire “Walter,” an AI pixel-generated companion that takes the form of her late husband. Twists follow. The play was a finalist for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. —Jensen Davis
