The American artist Madelynn Green paints, but to do so she looks to photography. Green was born in 1993 in Milwaukee, and although she now lives and works in London, American politics heavily inform her art. In her canvases, Green positions figures the same way an amateur photographer from past eras might have. Her latest series, “Dolls,” comments on the notion of women getting dressed-up—“dolled up.” These humorous works nod to themes of celebrity and stardom as well as the theatrical nature of beauty. This is Green’s second solo show with the gallery. —Elena Clavarino
