“Drawings are thought feathers,” said the French-American artist Louise Bourgeois, “they are ideas that I seize in mid-flight and put down on paper.” Bourgeois, who lived from 1911 to 2010, is today one of the most exhibited artists in the world. Renowned as a sculptor, she also did drawings throughout her life, early on creating templates for her parents’ tapestry business, and eventually addressing her anxieties, unearthing her feelings, with ink, watercolor, and pencil.
