The Museum of Modern Art presents a sweeping selection of more than 80 works from its collection, all of them chosen by the artist and filmmaker Arthur Jafa. The exhibition reflects Jafa’s singular approach to reframing the history, visual culture, and aesthetics of Black life. Raised in segregated Mississippi and trained at Howard University, Jafa has long fused architecture, music, sci-fi, and found imagery into powerful cinematic and collage-based meditations—most famously Love Is the Message, The Message Is Death. This exhibition is no exception. —Carolina de Armas
