Pablo Picasso, Retrato de Jacqueline con Sombrero de Paja, 1962.

Sept 10, 2022 – Jan 8, 2023
Pound St, Petworth GU28 0DX, UK

Picasso first met Lee Miller—the Vogue model turned Surrealist photographer turned war correspondent—in the summer of 1937. They were introduced in the South of France, where Picasso lived and Miller was vacationing. Their bond was immediate and lifelong. Up until Picasso’s death in 1973, Miller photographed him more than 1,000 times. He, in turn, painted six portraits of her. The deep friendship of these two is the subject of a new exhibition at Newlands House. The show includes more than 100 photographs by Miller, and, as a bonus, there are Miller self-portraits, her camera, a selection of her W.W. II images, and works by Picasso that have traveled from Spain for the first time. —Clara Molot
