Killing Justice

In 2014, Judge Brijgopal Harkishan Loya died suddenly of what was reported to be a heart attack. Two years later, his niece claimed otherwise; she said that she found the circumstances of her uncle’s death to be suspicious. Home of Pod Save America, Pod Save The World, and Lovett or Leave It, the new podcast by Crooked Media and the Branch follows the mysterious death of Loya, a powerful judge in India. At the time of Judge Loya’s death, the case he was hearing at the time involved Amit Shah, one of India’s most prominent politicians. The case alleged that Shah had been responsible for the murder of a criminal named Sohrabuddin Sheikh. Loya died before the case was completed; it was subsequently dismissed. On Killing Justice, host Ravi Gupta not only investigates the judge’s death, but he also peers into the state of Indian democracy, questioning how and when those in power are able to silence others. —Zack Hauptman
