Tomer Zvulun, the general and artistic director of the Atlanta Opera, spent his pandemic forging a new business model, catering to live audiences with a season of masked and socially distanced chamber opera under an open-air Big Top. Such stripped-down fare will continue even as the company goes back indoors to resume the full-dress shows of old. Megan Marino, who scored as a gypsy of intriguing refinement in Zvulun’s down-and-dirty Threepenny Carmen (available on video), opens the season as Mr. “I Came, I Saw, I Conquered” in Handel’s lavish treatment of one of history’s most consequential love affairs (talk about chameleons).
