The Daily Show

I’m sure I’m not the only young adult who was introduced to the “grown up” worlds of politics and irreverent humor in one fell swoop. It came through The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, which was deemed acceptable viewing for an adolescent because it was, in a certain sense, educational. It was indeed instructive, not least because Stewart’s wry commentary, deft observations, and laugh-out-loud-funny correspondent segments kept me coming back every night for years. When Trevor Noah took over in 2015, the show remained great—but it was different. I found myself wondering how Stewart would have dealt with the hot-button news items of the last eight years. Now, I need wonder no longer. Since Noah’s departure in 2022, a new permanent host has yet to be chosen; so beginning on February 12, Stewart will take back the reins on Monday nights. I’d prefer he hosted all the shows, but beggars can’t be choosers. —Jack Sullivan
