Winterthur, 5105 Kennett Pike, Winterthur, DE 19735, USA

Jacqueline Kennedy, a powerhouse sotto voce, was not afraid to seek advice from those who knew more than she did. And she listened to what they said. In her 1961 restoration of the White House interiors, the young First Lady sought help from an 80-year-old man—the cultured collector and a farmer of dairy cattle, Henry Francis du Pont. He worked with her to find the best in American furniture and art. This exhibition at the Winterthur Museum, du Pont’s former home, tells the story of their historic partnership through artifacts, archives, and images. —Laura Jacobs
