Intersections: Detroit

Intersections: Detroit.

Detroit’s past, from the destruction of the Black Bottom neighborhood in the late 1950s to the Detroit Riot in 1967, offers invaluable context to one’s grasp of the city, says the historian Jamon Jordan. “I was able to understand my place in the world,” he reflects in Intersections: Detroit, a 10-part podcast focused on the isolated lives of those inhabiting, working within, and ultimately tied to Motor City. Narrated by the resident poet Jessica Care Moore, the series interviews over 100 of Detroit’s “agents of change”—people whose distinctive visions of the city offer the kind of canvas that can only be created by lived memories and experiences. The podcast’s goal: to eschew assumption, and to paint a picture of Detroit as it truly is. —Jack Sullivan
