Textile production is woven into every culture—human life is unimaginable without it (dress and bedclothes, window treatments and wall coverings, blankets and bath towels)—but no continent can claim more brilliant innovation in textiles, from the humble to the radiantly embellished, than India. Stripes and florals, cottons and linens and silks. Mughal Empire embroideries in gold and silver. This exhibition draws from the private collection of Karun Thakar and showcases work of many genres from the 9th century to the early 20th. —L.J.
