Modernism has a hard time flourishing in the jaws of communism, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t found expression inside repressive regimes. “In the Eye of the Storm” celebrates the courageous artists who made advances in Futurism and Constructivism at the risk of not only their livelihoods but their lives. Focusing on the period between 1900 and 1930, the exhibition presents groundbreaking work from the artists Oleksandr Bohomazov, Vasyl Yermilov, Viktor Palmov, and Anatol Petrytskyi. It also includes background on the exceptional circumstances in which these exceptional works were created. —Clara Molot
