In 2005, 24 unarmed civilians were murdered by a group of U.S. Marines in Haditha, Iraq. President Bush promised to punish the Marines if the allegations of murder were, in fact, true. Not a single one of the soldiers spent a day in prison. Now, the investigative reporter Madeleine Baran tackles the case on her podcast, In The Dark. The show, which was previously at APM Reports, has since found a new home at The New Yorker. Seasons One and Two of the podcast covered, respectively, the abduction and murder of Jacob Wetterling, an 11-year-old boy, and the story of Curtis Flowers, a falsely incarcerated Black man in rural Mississippi. At The New Yorker, a mini season about the daughters of Dubai’s ruler premiered last January. As of July 30, Season Three is officially here. Each week, Baran will take listeners through her four-year investigation into what really happened in Haditha and why so many questions were left unanswered. —Zack Hauptman
