Eleven contemporary artists from the African diaspora prompt us to envision a future filled with liberation and acceptance. These artists—from Nick Cave to Hew Locke to Lina Iris Victor—have all been inspired by myth, tradition, history, and science fiction. Through a variety of mediums (painting, video, installation), they encourage us to look hard at the past and imagine new ways to live in racial harmony. —Thalia Bonas
