The Greek etymology of the word “icon” allows two meanings—“image” or “likeness.” In religion, an icon is usually Christ or a holy figure. Then there’s the icon of popular culture, divas like Lady Gaga or Madonna, or people of star power or transcendent beauty. This exhibition brings together artistic icons from the Pinault collection, and includes work by Josef Albers, Maurizio Cattelan, Donald Judd, Agnes Martin, Dayanita Singh, and Rudolf Stingel. —Elena Clavarino
