In December 2021, authorities entered a Glasgow Covid ward with an international arrest warrant. A man there named Author Knight had been in a coma, fighting for his life. Oddly, the Irish academic with a Downtown Abbey accent had the exact same tattoo scars on his upper arms as Nicholas Rossi, a convicted sex offender who had disappeared from Utah, apparently faking his own death. “Knight” was served the warrant when he emerged from the coma, his devoted wife, Miranda, by his side. Some were quicker than others to believe that Knight might possibly be Rossi. Jane MacSorley, the journalist behind the new podcast I Am Not Nicholas, was immediately fascinated by the case. She follows the couple closely—and was even invited to their home for a chicken and Champagne dinner. An early sceptic, her reporting on this perplexing case is riveting. —Clara Molot
