Hypervenezia

Oct 21, 2021 – Jan 9, 2022
Campo San Samuele, 3231, 30124 Venezia VE, Italy

The magic of Venice has no parallel. The city is home to glittering waters, hidden alleyways and bridges, and, of course, the majestic Grand Canal, where the Palazzo Grassi stands. In 2006, inspired by the city’s beauty, the photographer Mario Peliti set out to map it visually. His plan? To capture the urban fabric of Venice with the largest archive of city images ever amassed. Fifteen years later, his project is complete: 12,000 photographs are arranged across the palace’s gallery spaces. They mark an ideal trail through the city’s sestieri (neighborhoods). The photos are black and white, and devoid of human presence. Reopening after extensive renovations, Palazzo Grassi’s show celebrates the 1600th anniversary of the city’s founding. —E.C.
