The Pakistani-American sculptor Huma Bhabha creates “post-apocalyptic sculptures” out of found objects—cork, styrofoam, chicken wire, rubber tires. Totemic and solemn, her works show a wide range of influences: Ancient Egypt, African Art, classicism, Cubism, even German Expressionism. Sometimes they hover between pathos and humor; sometimes their block faces invoke horror movies and monsters. This exhibition offers a selection of Bhabha’s art. Themes of colonialism, war, and displacement are paramount. —Elena Clavarino
