Hubert de Givenchy: Collectioneur

Hubert de Givenchy, photographed by Victor Skrebneski in 1975.

June 8–23, 2022
9 Avenue Matignon, 75008 Paris, France

February 2, 1952—an important day for fashion. This was the day that Hubert de Givenchy, just 25 years old, unveiled his first haute couture collection. A protégé of the great Balenciaga, Givenchy would maintain elegance in a world gone mod. Think of Audrey Hepburn’s iconic black sheath in Breakfast at Tiffany’s! Givenchy dressed the world’s most glamorous women—scions of the Agnellis, the Bismarcks—and celebrities such as Jane Holzer and Lee Radziwill. This auction of more than 1,000 lots offers furniture and an exceptional collection of art. Even if you aren’t bidding, browse the catalogues and check out the online auction (June 8 to 23). The live sale takes place in Paris, June 14 through 17. —Elena Clavarino
